Alex Cunningham welcomes plans for a new renewable energy plant on Teesside

Alex Cunningham MP today welcomed the news that hundreds of construction jobs and 50 permanent jobs will be created thanks to plans for a new renewable energy plant near Billingham.

Air Products PLC has announced plans for an energy plant that will generate renewable energy for up to 50,000 homes in the North East. The plant will divert waste from landfill, offering an environmentally friendly solution for the production of renewable energy in the North East. Reacting to the announcement, Alex said:

“I am delighted that another company wants to settle on Teesside, bringing with it valuable new jobs. Thanks to a £250,000 grant from One North East, we have once again ensured that the flourishing renewables sector sees Teesside as the best place to invest.

“This plant will help the UK reach important renewable energy targets. I am particularly pleased that an estimated 500 – 700 construction jobs will be created during the three year construction period. Let’s hope this project is gets the rubber stamp of approval sooner rather than later.”

“This is yet another good example of why the Tees Valley would be an excellent location for the proposed Green Bank to support industries like this. Our area is attracting the best of green industries and the new Bank would be a tremendous encouragement to others keen to locate in our area.”
