More than 45,000 families set to lose £9 a week in housing benefit

Alex Cunningham MP was shocked to read TUC analysis of June’s Emergency Budget which reveals that 45,160 households in the North East will each lose around £9 a week (£468 a year) as a result of changes to housing benefit (HB) announced in the Budget.  Reacting to this news, Alex said:

“This cut in housing benefit will make a real difference to some of our poorest and most vulnerable families, and will affect nearly one million households across the UK.

“The rich have been let off, whilst many of our most vulnerable families are being left to pick up the cost of the recession. This is just another reminder that we are very definitely not all in this together. ”
