Alex has been appointed to the Work & Pensions Select Committee. Reacting to the news, Alex said:
“I put my name forward for the Work & Pensions Committee and I am very pleased to have been appointed to this position.
At a time when the Coalition Government is implementing huge reforms to the benefit system it is vital these changes are examined carefully and that Ministers are held to account for their decisions.
The Committee is currently holding an enquiry into Youth Unemployment and the Future Jobs Fund and I look forward to our weekly meetings and to getting stuck in with colleagues from across the political spectrum.”
The Work and Pensions Select Committee is made up of eleven Members from all parties and is Chaired by Labour MP Anne Begg. Members meet once a week to carry out the important task of scrutinising the work of the Department for Work & Pensions.
