Alex Cunningham MP welcomes Stockton river project

Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham recently met with Natural England to discuss the ‘River Routes in Stockton’ project that is part of the £25 million grant scheme – ‘Access to nature’ supported by the Big Lottery Fund.

Alex said: “The project is great news for Stockton and the surrounding areas. I hope that the walks and other activities that are being planned will not only attract visitors to the area, but local people can also enjoy them.

“’Access to Nature’ is a great scheme that highlights how wonderful the natural environment can be and I have high hopes that the project will be a success in my constituency.”

Groundwork North East, the organisation behind the project, was awarded with over £250,000 in February and planning is now well under way.

The ‘River Routes in Stockton’ project will provide connectivity within the five towns in the borough with neighbouring water courses, linking key communities together. It will provide a number of circular walks with various access points, bridging the divide between communities with natural assets to explore, enjoy and become passionate about. Two Community Rangers will work with the various community forums to develop physical access proposals, identifying and securing funding for implementation.
