Local School’s ‘Travel Plan’ funding pulled

Oakdene Primary School in Billingham is the latest organisation on Teesside that has lost out thanks to Government cuts.

Alex was contacted in February by Headteacher Liz Bramley who was disappointed that the school has lost out on £10,000 to create storage for bikes and scooters.

He took up her case and wrote to the Department for Education but the response received made it clear the Government has no plans to reinstate the funding.

Alex said:

“Staff and pupils at Oakdene School had all engaged with this project and were excited about being able to bike to school without having to worry about where to store their bikes and scooters.”

“To pull the funding when so much time and energy had gone into this project is a real shame. We should be encouraging young people to travel in a sustainable way that also helps to keep them fit and active. Staff and pupils at Oakdene Primary School recognise that. It’s just a shame the Government doesn’t.”
