Natwest in Norton to close

Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham has criticised Natwest following the news that they are to close their branch in Norton.

Alex received a letter from Natwest in March stating that the branch in Norton will close on the 21st June this year.

He has written to Natwest asking that they review this decision. Alex said:

“Many local people use this branch and without it they will have to travel to Billingham or Stockton. For the elderly, disabled and many others this will be a real problem and makes Natwest’s ‘Customer Charter’ a joke.”

“The company claims to be committed to making banking easy and committed to helping the communities they work in but in Norton that is clearly not the case.”

In his letter Alex also asks for assurances that if it does close, the building in the middle of a conservation area is not left neglected, the signage removed and the building is properly restored and not boarded up.

Alex has received a response stating that a thorough investigation is taking place into the decision to close the Norton branch. He is still waiting for a more substantial response.
