Northumbrian Water could be prosecuted over Lustrum Beck incident

The Environment Agency is considering prosecuting Northumbrian Water after the release of sewage into Lustrum Beck which runs through the centre of Alex Cunningham’s Stockton North constituency.

Last week Alex called for an enquiry after learning that sewage had been pouring into the Beck. Today Alex said:

“The Environment Agency told me the pollution incident affected 3 kilometres of Lustrum Beck and they have categorised it as serious (Category 1). Their normal enforcement response is a prosecution for a Category 1 pollution incident.”

“They have promised to keep me updated with the progress of their investigation.”

“I have written to Northumbrian Water seeking an assurance that lessons have been learnt and such an incident will not happen again.”
