Alex highlights Mental Health North East’s concerns with Government

Local MP Alex Cunningham has written to the Secretary of State for Health to highlight concerns raised by Mental Health North East about the way in which Government policies are adversely impacting on people with mental health difficulties.

Alex said:

“I am told by Mental Health North East that there is mounting evidence that the recession, coupled with cuts to the public sector and the sweeping welfare and benefit reforms that are being introduced by the Government will not only increase mental ill health and emotional distress, but they are already resulting in reductions to both the quantity and quality of support and care just as more and more people need help.”

“I have written to the Secretary of State to make sure he is aware of the concerns raised by Mental Health North East which is made up of local voluntary community sector organisations.”

“Once again, some of the most vulnerable people in the country are being hit hardest by the Government’s spending cuts, which are going too far, too fast.”
