No progress on Swallow Hotel site

The future of the redundant Swallow Hotel in Stockton town centre is still very much in the melting pot – with yet another deadline for details of its future slipping past.

Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham has been pressing Whitbread for action on the hotel. Now he is disappointed to have received a letter from the company saying they are still considering how best to proceed with the vacant building.

Alex has been in contact with Whitbread for many months and had been told that a decision about the future of the building would be made by June. He said today:

“I am really disappointed there has been no real progress. I am told that Whitbread’s Commercial & Property Director visited the site at the start of June but no decision has yet been made about the future of the former Swallow Hotel building.

“I feel let down by Whitbread and I am sure local people will be frustrated that this decision is being dragged out.

“I have been told a recommendation about the future of the building should be made to the Whitbread Board in the next few weeks and I will be pursuing Whitbread for a decision sooner rather than later.

“The Swallow Hotel has an important role to play in the regeneration of our town centre and we need leaseholders and property owners to play their part in its future.”
