As MPs returned to Westminster last week for an emergency session of Parliament local MP Alex Cunningham took the opportunity to question the Chancellor over the Government’s refusal to support local industries.
The Chancellor made a statement on the Global Economy in the House of Commons and Alex spoke out over the frustration of local company TAG Energy Solutions which is involved in the manufacture of offshore wind turbines but has yet to land its first order.
Alex said:
“I visited TAG Energy Solutions last week and they told me they have invested £20 million in their company. But they are frustrated at what they see as the disadvantage they have in comparison with Germany and other European countries, which buy at home.
“I asked the Chancellor when he will really do something to help British industry and to ensure that British wind farm developers buy British. Unfortunately, all I got was warm words and no real evidence that the Government will take action to support companies like TAG Energy Solutions.
“What we need is a Government prepared to get its hands dirty with industrialists, listen to them and exploit the European rules to their advantage instead of just rolling over and leaving other countries to support their own domestic companies. That is how we will create the jobs that Teesside so desperately needs.”
