Alex tells young people to get up and go

Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham is encouraging young people in the area to get up and go and take part in the Prince’s Trust Team programme which starts in Stockton on Monday 5th September.

The 12 week course is aimed at 16 to 25 year-olds from any background. Young people who are unemployed, not sure what to do, are looking to take a year out, are unable to work for any reason, or are disadvantaged in some way could benefit from this course.

Alex said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for young people to develop their personal skills such as confidence, leadership and problem solving through a series of projects and challenges, with an emphasis on teamwork within the local community. It is also an opportunity to gain qualifications and experiences to enhance their CV.”

Young people on the course are encouraged to look at their future plans and the Trust aims to prepare them for entering into further education, training or employment. Nationally, 70% of young people taking part in a Prince’s Trust programme progress into training or employment on completion of the course.

Whilst on the course the team members are given the opportunity to obtain nationally recognised qualifications, which are:

• City & Guilds Certificate in Personal Development and Contributing to the Community
• City & Guilds Wider Key Skills; Problem Solving, Improving Own Learning & Working With Others (at levels 1, 2 or 3)
• Asdan Award in Money Management
• First Aid – Heart Start
• The Prince’s Trust Team Personal Development Certificate

Any young person who would like any further information or anyone else who would like to refer a young person for a place on the course, should contact me; Roye Tribe on either 01642 678640 or 0755 336 7542 or by email roye.tribe@stockton.ac.uk.
