Reacting to the confirmation that Air Products are to go ahead with their innovative power plant in his constituency, Stockton North Labour MP Alex Cunningham said:
“I am delighted that Air Products have confirmed their confidence in the Teesside workforce and that their plans, so long delayed by the Government’s failure to decide the level of subsidies through the Renewable Obligation Commitment, can now go ahead.
“The jobs, both construction and permanent, are a welcome boost to the area and I hope it will be the first of many new power and green industry projects that will now go ahead.
“What we need now is a commitment from the Government to ensure that the components needed to develop power stations, wind farms and other projects are built in Britain and the jobs created here instead of mainland Europe.”
Alex also said he had been pleased to work with the company over many months to lobby the government over the level of subsidy for projects of this nature.
“It seemed touch and go for a long time and this was only one major project for our area put in jeopardy by the delays from Government. I’m just pleased they finally saw sense and we’ll get the investment and jobs so long promised for our area,” he said.
