A tribute to Maureen Taylor MBE – a champion for her community

Stockton North Labour MP Alex Cunningham today paid tribute to former Councillor Maureen Taylor who served the Labour Party and her community for more than 50 years.  Maureen passed away on Sunday.

Alex said:

“Maureen may have been small in stature but was a giant fighting for the people she represented as a Labour councillor on different local authorities over several decades.

“The Labour Party was central to Maureen’s life since she was a young woman and she worked harder than anyone I knew for communities across Teesside.

“She also served our area at regional and national level and made a tremendous contribution at all levels to among other things the Arts and the work she did locally in that particular area has left a lasting legacy. I’ll never forget her for her commitment to her beloved, Billingham International Folklore Festival which she saw develop from its inception.

“She has been missed for some years from front line politics but I know she maintained a keen interest until recent years.  I was proud to be her friend for over 30 years and was grateful for her support, encouragement and counsel.”
