Stockton MP hails Tees Valley City Deal bid

The Member of Parliament for Stockton North, Alex Cunningham, has today thrown his weight behind a bid to deliver a City Deal for the Tees Valley.

He said that he was impressed with the Expression of Interest document from the Tees Valley which is backed by business, the five Teesside Local Authorities as well as Teesside University.

He pointed out that the challenges facing Teesside were well known, and that City Deal status would be a great boost to the area, allowing for a greater Teesside contribution to British jobs and growth.

Alex said:

“If the bid succeeds, it will help create good quality, sustainable jobs for our Teesside communities. It would bring about more opportunities for inward investment and the opportunity for our area to demonstrate yet again that it can be a driver of economic growth.

“So often, the word “partnership” is misused, but not in this case.  Just as the Tees Valley showed the way with the creation of one of the country’s first Local Enterprise Partnerships, the right people and organisations have once again come together to make a successful bid work for our area.

“I am delighted to support the bid for a City Deal for the Tees Valley, and hope to hear shortly that the Government is inviting representatives of our area to negotiate on the proposals and to see the work deliver for our communities.”
