Stockton North MP welcomes Good News on Tag Energy Solutions

Praise was given to Billingham-based Tag Energy Solutions after they were awarded a contract to manufacture parts for offshore wind energy by the energy giant Eon.

It is the first contract of its type awarded to a British company and represents a massive coup for the company, and will lead to the creation of new jobs in the Teesside area due to direct recruitment and the impact in the supply chain.

Preparation work has started for the manufacture of 16 steel foundation poles called monopiles – each 60 metres long and weighing 1,000 tonnes.

Alex had consistently pressed the case in Parliament with the Business Secretary for British companies to be awarded contracts of this type, which had previously been going to foreign companies, even though the expertise was available right here in Teesside.

Alex said:

“The awarding of this contact by Eon to Tag Energy Solutions is great news for Stockton and great news for Teesside. This is a breakthrough deal for the company and I am sure this is just the start for one of our best local businesses.

“The deal is sure to create good quality, sustainable jobs right here in our local area. I have been consistent in pressing the Government for help in stopping these big contracts going overseas and ensuring that suitable contracts went to British firms when the expertise was right here under our noses. It is encouraging that Eon have recognised that potential.

“Teesside can and will make a big contribution to the new generation of offshore wind facilities in this country, helping us to expand our manufacturing base, stimulate our local economy, and putting us on the path to a low-carbon future.

“I would like to congratulate Tag on their achievement and hope this is the first of many big deals of this type brought to Teesside.”
