Praise for Air Products after Victory in Bid for 20 year Government Contract

Air Products, the global energy company, was today praised for its success in winning a lucrative contract from the Government’s Cabinet Office, which will create numerous local jobs on Teesside.

The Labour Member of Parliament for Stockton North, Alex Cunningham, praised the deal as ‘great news for the Stockton Borough, and great news for Air Products.’ He added that he was pleased that the Cabinet Office had seen the potential in Teesside, and congratulated the company on their success.

The deal will see much of the electricity generated at a new ‘energy from waste’ facility in the area service the Government contract. It will generate energy from 350,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste from landfill every year, which will be turned into reliable, controllable, renewable energy. The Government have claimed that the deal will also see the taxpayer save £84m through a fixed agreement that will provide stability in what the public sector pays for energy.

Alex said:

“This is great news for Teesside, and great news for Air Products.  I am pleased that the Cabinet Office have seen the potential in what Air Products are doing, and this is not only an exciting project for the future, but a vote of confidence in what is already being done in the area.

“I welcome the news, along with the jobs and economic activity that it brings with it. The company is already building one power station in my constituency and we await confirmation that there will be a second, creating new jobs and sustaining many more.

“I also congratulate Air Products and look forward working alongside them to grow the Teesside economy for the benefit of my constituents in Stockton and everyone across the Tees Valley.”
