Alex encourages nominations for Family Heroes award

Family Heroes Award 2013

Alex Cunningham, Member of Parliament for Stockton North, is calling on constituents to enter nominations for the 4Children and Take a Break Family Heroes Awards 2013.

The award scheme, which is open to everyone, aims to celebrate the achievements of unsung heroes in each region of the country who go above and beyond the call of duty to support families through tough times.

Alex said:

“Many people across the constituency do extraordinary things to support families, whether that’s caring for their own relatives or helping other families in need.  This scheme is a great way of recognising their efforts, and I urge anyone who knows such a person to nominate them for this award.”

A family hero could, for example, be someone who has shown courage in protecting or supporting a family member in need; someone who has helped a young person turn their life around after a bad experience; someone who has supported a friend with postnatal depression; or someone who is a young carer looking after a disabled parent.

Anyone who knows a family hero is urged to download or fill out a nomination form online at www.4children.org.uk/familyheroes  or for further information contact Amelia.Sewell@4Children.org.uk / 0207 522 6970.

Nominations close on 31st August. A family hero will be selected from each of the 12 UK regions (including the North East), one of which will be crowned the UK’s Overall Family Hero 2013 and will receive a £5,000 cash prize.

Each finalist will receive an all expenses paid trip to London to attend the Family Heroes Awards Ceremony on 23rd October and will have their story featured in Britain’s best selling women’s weekly, Take a Break.
