Alex encourages nominations for Red Cross citizen award

Alex Cunningham, Member of Parliament for Stockton North, is calling for constituents to enter nominations for the British Red Cross Humanitarian Citizen Award 2013.  The award scheme, which is open to anyone under the age of 25, aims to celebrate the achievements of young people whose selfless actions go unsung.

Alex said:

“Some young people across the constituency go to remarkable lengths to help those in their local community, including volunteering and fundraising for good causes.  This scheme is an excellent way of recognising their efforts, and I urge anyone who knows such a person to nominate them for this award.”

The Humanitarian Citizen Award celebrates the achievements of young people in one of four categories: first aid, volunteering, community action and fundraising.  Last year the award was won by Erin McNeil, who in 2009 survived a house fire and overcame substantial burns to volunteer with the fire service in Scotland.

Anyone who knows an inspirational young person who has made a difference in their community is urged to complete a nomination for the award at http://www.redcross.org.uk/theaward
