Alex welcomes first order at former TAG Energy Solutions site

Alex Cunningham has welcomed news that the first order has been placed at the former TAG Energy Solutions site in Billingham.

Stockton North’s Labour MP was delighted to hear that DONG Energy has signed a contract for the supply of foundations for the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm, bringing specialist production back to Teesside.

Under the deal signed with EEW SPC, a significant amount of production will be undertaken in the UK, with a high proportion of the transition pieces set to be manufactured at the Teesside plant by Offshore Structures (Britain) Ltd – a joint venture set up by EEW SPC and Bladt Industries A/S, who acquired the manufacturing site when TAG Energy Solutions went into administration.

Alex said:

“It is excellent news that the first manufacturing contract has been awarded so soon after the site was taken into new ownership.  I understand that work on the project could begin as early as August, bringing vital skilled jobs back to the region.

“The UK is a world leader in offshore wind technology with the North East, and the Tees Valley in particular, having great capacity in this area both in terms of knowledge and manufacturing potential.

“I am hopeful that this will be the first of many contracts for the region, and that further investment in our people and our area will follow.”
