Alex supports Baby Loss Awareness Week

Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham is helping raise awareness about Baby Loss Awareness Week, which was created for bereaved parents to unite with others across the world to commemorate their babies’ lives, to raise awareness about the issues surrounding pregnancy and baby loss in the UK, and to push for tangible improvements in services, support, research or policy around bereavement support.

Starting on Monday 9th October to Sunday 15th October, this year the week is aimed at better bereavement care for people affected by pregnancy and baby loss. Psychological and emotional support services are vital to offer to anyone who has lost a baby before, during, or after birth.

Almost 40 charities are working on baby and child issues such as the All Party Parliamentary Group on Baby Loss, health professionals, and countless parents and families supporting the week both in the UK and across the world.

Speaking about the awareness week, Alex said:

“It must be incredibly painful to lose your child, and I believe it is essential that there are support services available for all those that need them.

“Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important time to remember baby deaths, and review our support for parents and family members of those that have suffered this loss. We must make sure that there are high quality bereavement support services and care available for people wherever they live in the UK, no matter whether there was a miscarriage or death before the child reaching a year old.”
