Celebrating democracy with the Women’s Suffrage Centenary Grant Scheme

A fund promoting awareness of centenary of the 1918 Representation of the People Act is to be launched, and Alex is encouraging local groups to apply

The £5m Women’s Suffrage Centenary Grant Scheme has been announced by the Department of Education with the aim of celebrating the bravery of the suffrage movement. Grants will be available in two categories: smaller grants of up to £2000 to support local events, and higher grant stream of between £2000 and £125,000 that will focus on projects designed to increase young people’s engagement with democracy and encourage women to participate in public life.

Alex said:

This is hugely important centenary, and it’s only fitting that we not only celebrate it properly but use its legacy to promote a wider engagement in our democracy. I hope community groups in Stockton North will take the opportunity to get involved in these celebrations, and I’ll be publicising the scheme again once the bidding process is announced.
