Stockton park in running for prestigious UK Best Park Award

Newham Grange Park has been nominated for the Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park, as voted by YOU! Award, and Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, is encouraging residents to support it in the public vote.

Fields in Trust is a national charity operating throughout the UK to safeguard recreational spaces and campaign for better statutory protection for all kinds of outdoor site. Across the UK, parks both large and small – but each a valued community green space – have been nominated.

Fields in Trust legally safeguards over 2,700 playing fields, playgrounds and recreation grounds – a total of 30,000 acres. UK’s Best Park is a way to celebrate vital green spaces and the benefits they bring. Access to good quality recreational spaces can contribute to the physical and mental health of people and provide great places for people to get together for community events.

Home to ‘Butterwick Wood’ – an area of trees planted in dedication to friends and relatives – and with its woodland, streams and ponds, Newham Grange Park is a much loved community green space, and I’m pleased to see it being recognised by Fields in Trust.

Now we need as many people in Stockton to vote – and get their friends and family to vote – for it to win ‘Best Park’!
