Tackling fuel poverty with Warm Home Discounts scheme

British Gas is continuing its Warm Home Discount scheme, and Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, is encouraging constituents to find out if they’re eligible for a rebate.

Warm Home Discount is a scheme offering a rebate of £140 off their electricity bill. to constituents with the ‘Guarantee Credit’ element of Pension Credit, or with a low income and who meet British Gas’s criteria for the scheme – this includes constituents who meet this criteria and are on a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter.

Fuel poverty and cold homes can have huge implications on people’s health and ability to work, and it’s scandal that many people on low incomes or pensions are often forced into making difficult decisions about eating or heating. The Warm Homes Discount scheme goes a small way to alleviating pressures on people’s bank balances, and I’d encourage Stockton North constituents to find out if they’re eligible for a rebate.
