Alex supports The Daily Mile challenge

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, is supporting The Daily Mile challenge – and encouraging Stockton North primary schools to get involved.

Launching nationwide on Saturday 7 April, The Daily Mile is a simple and free initiative that gives children the opportunity to get out of their classroom for fifteen minutes a day to run and jog with their classmates.

The Daily Mile was founded by Elaine Wyllie, then a head teacher in Scotland, who was surprised by the level of physical inactivity amongst primary school children. Since then, The Daily Mile has spread throughout Scotland – with the Scottish Government announcing its ambition to be the first Daily Mile nation. Working with ITV to feature The Daily Mile on television, the aim now is to take the initiative across the entire United Kingdom.

Alex said:

Getting children into physical activity from a young age is vitally important, and research has shown that physical activity not only gets children fitter and healthier, but also contributes to an increase in concentration levels in the classroom.

The Daily Mile is a great initiative, and I’d encourage all primary schools in Stockton North to get involved.
