Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has secured confirmation from Richard Marshall, the Regional Director for Highways England, that the project to tackle the noise and widen the road between Wynyard and Norton is still confirmed and on schedule to start in 2020.
There will also be a public engagement programme in the later part of the year, including an exhibition to help show people what is to happen and how it will impact on the area.
Speaking after the meeting with Highways England, Alex said:
“I am pleased that this project that local groups have campaigned on for decades will now be delivered.
“Highways England are also looking at scenarios for a new A19 crossing over the River Tees, but it will be some time before anything concrete happens. There are also plans to reduce the number of crossing points on the A19 to help reduce the number of accidents on the road.”
