Residents are losing out, says Alex, as he calls for superfast broadband provision in Carlton

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has said some Carlton residents are losing out – as he calls on BT and Gentoo to provide super fast broadband to the residents of Orwell Grange.

Residents of Orwell Grange, the Gentoo Homes development at Carlton, are experiencing broadband speeds between 1.5Mbs and 4Mbs, despite the rest of the village accessing 50mbs and beyond – according to BT’s online tracker. As a result, a number of residents have asked Alex to intervene to see if he can get the situation resolved. After approaching Gentoo Homes, Alex was told that discussions are now being planned between them and BT Openreach, but that these are yet to have happened. Alex has now written to BT Openreach, asking them to speed the process along.

Alex said

It is completely unfair that, while Carlton village experiences good broadband provision, the neighbouring Orwell Grange estate is without it. Residents are losing out, and it is clear that Gentoo and BT need to work together to sort this issue out.

Unfortunately, it appears to be taking some time for both parties to even begin discussions about how to address the broadband issue, which is causing residents more frustration. That’s why I’m calling on them to get round the table, and come up with a plan to provide super fast broadband to the residents of Orwell Grange
