Alex welcomes NHS Dentistry announcement

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has expressed his hope that two new dentists will be coming to Billingham soon – following a positive response to NHS England’s procurement process.

The news follows the cessation of NHS services at Queensway Dental Clinic, and Alex’s campaign to secure NHS dental provision in Billingham and wider Stockton area. Following discussions with NHS England it was agreed that two dentist contracts would be advertised to offset the loss of NHS places.

NHS England have now confirmed that two contracts will be awarded in early December with a view to start service on 1 June 2019.

I’m pleased to hear that NHS England will soon be in a position to announce new dental contracts in Billingham, and that local people will benefit from new NHS dentists from mid-2019. This announcement is the culmination of a lot of work from NHS England, local dentists and ward councillors, and I’m delighted to see it has paid off.

The issue of NHS dentistry and its funding in general however, remains, and I will continue to press the Government to properly finance this service.
