Support for local charities – with Alex hosting a Turn2us event

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham MP, is hosting a Turn2us event on 22 March – and is encouraging charities from across Teesside to sign up.

Turn2us is a national charity that helps people in financial hardship to access welfare benefits, charitable grants and other support. The Turn2us website – www.turn2us.org.uk – includes an easy-to-use Benefits Calculator; a Grants Search database with access to over 1,500 charitable funds; and information on benefits and grants.

Last year, over nine million people used the Turn2us website with over 2.48 million benefits checks and grants searches completed.

For anyone who cannot access the website, Turn2us has a free confidential helpline, and they also work with a range of national and local organisations to help reach more people in financial hardship and those who need face to face support.

The presentation will show charities: how to use the Turn2us Benefits Calculator and Grants Search tool; how to access other resources including Find an Adviser and information on benefits and charitable grants; and where to find the latest information on benefit changes including the roll out of universal credit, localised council tax support and housing benefit.

Alex said: “Local charities do great work across our area in helping people access the support they need. Turn2us have been leaders in working with charities across the country to get the most for their users, and I’m delighted to be working with them to host their training workshop. I’d urge representatives from charities across Teesside to attend if they can.”

The event takes place on

22 March at: Stockton Business Centre, 70 Brunswick Street, Stockton on Tees, TS18 1DW, between 12 and 2pm.
