No Deal Brexit could see 1000 Stockton North jobs axed, warns Alex

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has warned that 1000 jobs could be lost in his constituency as a result of No Deal Brexit – and has pledged to do all he can to protect local jobs and stop UK crashing out of the EU without a deal.

The warning comes as 38 Degrees and the UK Trade Policy Observatory have released figures suggesting 745,000 jobs could be lost nationwide as a result of a No Deal Brexit. 1000 of these would be held by people living in Stockton North.

The new Conservative Government has pledged to leave the EU, deal or no deal, by 31 October despite repeated warnings that this could seriously damage the UK’s economy.

The figures are clear: No Deal Brexit will be a disaster for Stockton North and the country as a whole, and will result in local jobs being lost and businesses moving elsewhere.

The Conservative Government’s determination to proceed with Brexit with or without a deal is utterly irresponsible, and shows that Boris Johnson and his Party are unfit to govern. They should have the courage to either call a general; election or put their deal – or a no deal – back to the people, and let the public decide whether to accept one of those options or remain in the EU.

In the meantime, I will continue to stand up for my constituents, and for local jobs and the economy, against a damaging No Deal outcome.
