Alex Responds to the Department for Transport’s Billingham Station announcement

I’m pleased to see that the Government has finally put their money where their mouth is and pledged much needed funding to make Billingham Station wheelchair friendly, although I’m keen to see more detail on how much the station will be set to receive.

This has been a hard fought campaign by local campaigners, councillors and myself to see Billingham Station – the only one in Teesside without step-free access – get the improvements it needs to be accessible to everyone.

I look forward to finding out how much of the £20 million will be spent on Billingham Station, what the funding will pay for, and when we can expect to see the improvements carried out for the benefit of local people.
