Turn photo opportunities into real jobs, Alex tells Secretary of State for Work and Pension on eve of her visit to Stockton North

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has called for real action to create jobs in Teesside on the eve of Secretary of State for Work and Pension’s, Therese Coffey MP, visit to his constituency this Friday.

The call comes as it emerged 3,075 people in Stockton North aged 16-64 are out of work, training or education – an increase of 310 from January 2019 and accounting for 5.3% of the constituency’s working age population.

Alex said:

While the Secretary of State visits my constituency, no doubt for a photo opportunity to celebrate the alleged successes of the Tory Government to get people into work, I would like to remind her that over 3,000 people are unemployed in Stockton North – and that this number continues to rise.

Rather than photo opportunities from Tory ministers, local people need real action from this Government to create jobs, training, and to tackle the rising unemployment in our area.

The Work and Pensions Secretary will visit an unknown location in Stockton North on Friday.
