Alex responds to the Chancellor’s £800m Carbon Capture and Storage pledge

Speaking about the Chancellor’s announcement on Carbon Capture and Storage investment, Alex said:

As founder and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carbon Capture and Storage, and someone who has – alongside the industry-led Teesside Collective – been campaigning to bring CCS to Teesside, I very much welcome the Chancellor’s announcement to invest £800 million into CCS which will restore much of the £900m cut some years ago.

The Chancellor promised this investment will create 6000 high skilled, high paid jobs and teased that some of these jobs will be in Teesside. Our area already has the knowledge and skills to develop CCS, and I would urge the Chancellor to confirm that Teesside gets the support it needs, and is chosen for as the home for one of the two clusters pledged by 2030.
