Alex responds to news INEOS will close its Utilities and Services Plant, putting 60 jobs at risk

Responding to news from INEOS regarding its Utilities and Services Plant at Seal Sands, Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham said:

“Disappointing news today from INEOS: BASF have confirmed their intention to close its HMD plant at Seal Sands, putting around 60 jobs at risk at INEOS’ Service and Utilities Plant. INEOS bosses have told me that they are now working on a one-on-one basis with workers to talk about any support they can offer – including other employment opportunities. I really hope alternative roles can be found for everyone who wants one, and my office is open to support any Stockton North constituents who might be affected.

“Our area has already seen around 12,500 jobs lost in the past eleven months and we need to see jobs replacing them now, not some time in the future.”

Notes:

  • BASF gave notice of its intention to close its hexamethylene diamine plant at Seal Sands earlier this year. This notice extended to the utilities and services contract held by INEOS.
  • INEOS have told Alex today (19 March 2021) that 60 jobs are at risk as a result of this decision.
  • Alex has written to the Government about the conditions of the Covid relief fund money in relation to BASF and its plans to close its Seal Sands plant.
