Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has welcomed the news that the A19 Norton to Wynyard Improvement scheme is due to be completed in the autumn of this year, months earlier than planned by Highways England.
Alex also praised the hard work of the A19 Noise Action Group (A19 NAG) for their twenty year campaign to have the noise reduced on this stretch of road, and which has resulted in noise reduction being part of this scheme. During his time as Stockton North MP, Alex has been supporting the group in their efforts to get Highways England to carry out noise mitigation works alongside any improvement scheme.
The scheme is increasing the number of lanes in each direction between Norton and Wynyard to support further development. A Spring 2022 completion date was expected.
Alex said:
“The progress being made on this scheme is fantastic, and I’m pleased to hear that Highways England expect it to be completed well ahead of schedule.
“This scheme will increase capacity on the road but perhaps more importantly for local people, it will significantly reduce traffic noise. A lot of credit needs to go to the A19 Noise Action Group who have been campaigning for two decades to have the noise reduced on this stretch of road. Their hard work has paid off, and I’m pleased to have been able to support them over the past ten years as Member of Parliament”.
