Alex responds to the Health Secretary’s announcement re 19 July

Responding to the Health Secretary’s announcement in Parliament today (12 July) Alex said:

“To cast off all measures is deeply irresponsible but not unsurprising for a Government that has dithered and delayed throughout this pandemic.

“We all want to see the economy open in a balanced, safe and sustainable way. To do this the Government needs to keep mask wearing in public places mandatory, support businesses to manufacture and install ventilation, and provide better financial support for those self-isolating. All of this should sit alongside an accelerated vaccination programme.

“None of these will stop the economy opening, but they will help keep people safe. The Health Secretary should reconsider his approach, retain measures such as mask wearing in crowded places, and support businesses and people as we move to the next stage of the pandemic.”
