Alex welcomes news Highways England will begin to resurface A19 north of A689 junction in Summer 2022

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has welcomed the news that Highways England will begin resurface works to the stretch of the A19 north of A689 junction at Wolviston in summer 2022.

The announcement comes after pressure from the Stockton North MP and local residents who have been lobbying Highways England to carry out resurfacing work on this stretch of road following the completion of the project to widen and resurface the A19 Norton to Wynyard stretch.

Previously the Highways England described the stretch of road north of Wolviston to be in “good condition” – a view Alex disagreed with – but they have now decided that that road will be resurfaced as part of its “National Concrete Roads Programme”. Work is set to begin in the summer of 2022.

Alex said:

“I’m really pleased the Highways England have made this decision to resurface the A19 north of Wolviston. It made no sense to leave this stretch of road untouched after carrying out extensive work to improve the road to the south.

“Local residents and I have been putting pressure on Highways England to carry out this improvement and it’s great to see them respond positively to this. I’ll be pressing Highways England for a timeframe of work and for them to make sure local people are kept informed of the project throughout.”
