New Alternative Provision School for Stockton

Alex Cunningham, MP for Stockton North, has today welcomed the announcement of a new Alternate Provision Free School being approved for Stockton North following a bid from Delta Academies Trust supported by Stockton Borough Council. The school will provide 100 places for pupils needing support away from mainstream education, usually on a temporary basis.

According to the Department for Education who approved the application, the school will add to the existing provision by supporting mainstream schools and the existing pupil referral units, providing much needed early intervention and support with a hope of a turnaround back into mainstream education. It will also ease the pressure on existing systems to support a reduction in exclusions and will focus on reintegration into mainstream education.

Alex Cunningham MP said:

“I absolutely welcome the announcement that the bid from Delta Academies Trust in partnership with Stockton Borough Council has been approved. Alternate provision is overloaded across Stockton and the wider area, and this new school will go a long way towards rectifying the problems and relieving the strain on services.

We need our young people in schools and learning, so sites like this will allow us to do that with greater support and early intervention. Education is the key to the future and no child should be denied this because of a lack of available support.”
