Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham, has called on Statera Energy to put its plans for two gas powered energy stations to residents, and face public scrutiny.
Alex’s call comes in light of two applications from Statera Energy to Stockton Council, in which the company is seeking the Council’s view as to whether or not the proposals for gas powered energy stations would require an Environmental Impact Assessment. Statera Energy is also looking at whether it is required to submit its plans to Stockton Council’s Planning Committee, or whether it can get approval from the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government as a “Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project”. Although a public enquiry would be featured, if deemed “Nationally Significant”, the plans for the gas powered stations would not need local authority approval.

It’s been more than two months since Statera Energy announced its intention to build two gas powered energy stations close to Thorpe Thewles and since that time I have received a number of concerns from residents of not just Thorpe Thewles, but other neighbouring villages.
Since then we’ve only had one brief public exhibition. Quite naturally, residents have further questions they want answered, and it’s about time that Statera Energy puts its proposals to proper public scrutiny.
