Hello and welcome to my web site – I hope you find what you need and that it is of interest to you. It is now over a year since the people of Stockton North elected me to serve them in Parliament and I hope I have been able to do that.
I continue to work in many different areas though work in parliament has had a very strong health focus in recent times whilst it will be crime and justice that will take u p much of my time in the coming months.
The chaos of the Government’s planned reforms to the NHS which have already cost hundreds of people across Teesside their jobs, led to longer waiting times in some areas and leaves the spectre of private companies taking over services on a grand scale, is concentrating everyone’s minds.
Patients, doctors, nurses and other staff have made it clear the Government have got their plans wrong – but despite promises to the contrary, the value of funding has dropped and privatised competition is still very much on the agenda.
My other work in recent times has included leading a debate on social care of older people and the need for all political parties to work together for a long term solution; in the same vein raising concerns over Southern Cross Care Homes (there are 5 in our area) who are in financial difficulties; working within the Justice Team on criminal sentencing and legal aid policy; meeting an Education Minister to fight for the MyPlace Youth complex alongside the new Academy; visiting Glebe Primary School to work with children on a road safety project; and developing a Private Members’ Bill to ban smoking in cars where children are present.
I am always please to have feedback on my work on your behalf and on the web site so please feel free to get in touch.
Alex Cunningham MP
