Better support for children who go missing from care

Children who go missing from care will now have the chance to talk to an independent person about why they ran away.

The new rules unveiled by Children and Families Minister Edward Timpson last month will see all children who return, having run away, be given an independent return interview organised by their local authority.

Care leavers need help to choose right university

More young people leaving care should be encouraged to study in higher education and supported to stay in it and not drop out, according to The Who Cares? Trust.

While around 38 per cent of 18 and 19 year olds are in higher education, that figure falls to six per cent for care leavers – a figure the charity wants to see increase.
