Alex calls on the Chancellor to back Stockton’s Northern Campus bid

Stockton North MP, Alex Cunningham has written to the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak MP, asking his to back Stockton Council’s Northern Campus bid  – which could bring 750 Treasury jobs to the areas.

In his letter – which has been sent in support of council leader Robert Cook’s own representations to the Chancellor – Alex highlighted Stockton Council’s recently unveiled “Stockton Waterfront” redevelopment scheme as an ideal location for the proposed Northern Campus. The Council’s scheme will see surplus retail replaced with a riverside park, and a commercial campus developed to cater for existing and future office needs.

Alex has also written to Stockton South MP, Matt Vickers, asking him to back the bid and make a “unified Stockton voice”.

Alex said:

“Stockton Council’s ambitious “Stockton Waterfront” development, alongside current re-development such as the Globe, shows that there is a really strong case for bringing the Northern Campus to Stockton Town Centre.

“The plan pulls together and strengthens Stockton’s vibrant culture and leisure scene, and really promotes our area as a place to live, work and play. I’m confident the Northern Campus would fit well with this exciting vision for the Town Centre.

“Bringing these Treasury jobs to the Tees Valley would also signify that the Government is serious about its “levelling up” agenda and I hope the Chancellor will seriously consider Stockton Town Centre for this proposed re-location. I hope the MP for Stockton South will agree that a unified Stockton voice will add weight to Stockton’s bid, and his voice to our call.”
